Vindana Reproductive Health Center was established in October 1998. It was initiated to provide the public with all components of reproductive health care under one roof. Treatment of infertility however is the area of special expertise developed at Vindana
The initial programmes for I.V.F were conducted in collaboration with a team from Singapore, and the first I.V.F baby was born in 2001 Since then the local team has gained much experience having worked with I.V.F
centers in India and the U.K. In 2002 Vindana’s totally Sri Lankan team produced their first I.V.F baby without foreign assistance. Since then over 100 babies have been produced by this team. The facilities for freezing of embryos and spermatozoa have further enhanced the technologies which support the I.V.F program. A sperm bank was started in 2003 and is the first of it’s kind in Sri Lanka . The National Science and technology award for the year 2005 was won by the Vindana Team in recognition of their services to the nation in introducing new technology. Several babies have been born with I.C.S.I and T.E.S.A. done with foreign collaboration.

It is now a well organized centre with a team of specialists for the treatment of all aspects of infertility and reproductive health care
